In Decimated Mariupol, Menorah Emerges From the Rubble

There is almost nothing left of Mariupol, the industrial Ukrainian city obliterated during the first months of the war. But on Saturday evening, workers pulled something out of the debris: the large metal Chanukah menorah that had once graced the synagogue sanctuary. It had somehow survived the intense fires that destroyed the building and was recovered a day before Chanukah.

First Chanukah Lighting at The World’s Largest Menorah in NYC with Eric Adams

This year, on the first night, Mayor Eric Adams addressed the crowd at the World’s Largest Menorah, followed by Israel’s United Nations Ambassador Gilad Erdan who then recited the three blessings on the first light of the menorah and lit the first candle. They were hosted by Rabbi Shmuel M. Butman, director of Lubavitch Youth Organization and joined by real estate developer Rotem Rosen.
