Alternate Side Parking Rules Suspended, July 4

Alternate side parking regulations are suspended on Wednesday, July 4 for holiday observance. Because July 4 is a major legal holiday, parking meter regulations are also suspended. On major legal holidays, stopping, standing, and parking are permitted, except in areas where stopping, standing, and parking rules are in effect 7 days a week (for example, “No Standing Anytime”).

NY Newsday

In the midst of a drawn-out zoning dispute, Southampton's only synagogue put the finishing touches yesterday on its very own handwritten Torah scroll, a task that took three years to complete.

“Today's ceremony is a show of unity and a show of togetherness,” said Rabbi Rafe Konikov of Chabad of Southampton Jewish Center.

Beginning in 1992, a small group gathered each week to pray in a rented meeting room in the Southampton Inn, but the congregation gradually outgrew its quarters. The purchase in 1999 of a three-story house on Hill Street set off a squabble over operating a synagogue in a residential neighborhood.

South Korea, Taiwan on Chabad’s Summer Itinerary

R.C. Berman – Lubavitch.com

Before the ink dried on a free trade deal between U.S. and South Korea, a first-time ever import arrived in Seoul: two young Chabad rabbis. They came to find Jews and help them reconnect with their heritage. The same factors that powered the economic diplomacy are what attract businesspeople from around the world, Jewish ex-pats and travelers among them.

And where there are Jews, there’s Chabad – especially in the summer.

The fast begins tonight at 3:42am and ends at 9:03pm (These times are for the NY area)

Tammuz 17 is a fast day, devoted to mourning the breaching of Jerusalem's walls and the other tragic events that occurred on this day and repenting and rectifying their causes. We refrain from all food and drink from “daybreak” (about an hour before sunrise, depending on location) until nightfall. Special prayers and Torah readings are added to the day's services.

Dr. Levi A. Reiter an Audiologist and professor at the Hofstra University, produced a new CD entitled “NO MACHLOKIS”. That’s right our own Dr. Reiter does the vocals, and Yossi Benshimon does the music. The result is a humorous well executed Rap with a good beat, a bit of an Afro-American twang, Chassidus, and a real message to Jewish communities everywhere.

Summer is here and many residents begin going upstate for the summer, be it for the country, sleep away camp or just to visit the use of the highways increase significantly and so does the chance of getting pulled over.

An unfortunate occurrence is a driver gets pulled over and does not know he or she had a suspended drivers license for an unpaid or forgotten ticket the result of which would be the drivers immediate arrest.

Please read the following letter and make sure you aren’t driving with a suspended license!

Dear Friend:

Each year hundreds of people within our community are arrested while driving with a suspended driver license. The Department of Motor Vehicles can suspend your driving privileges for a variety of reasons. The most common reason a license is suspended is if you don’t answer a traffic summons, or if you fail to pay the full fine or surcharge listed on the summons.
