Jewish Community Promotes Inter-Ethnic Accord
S. PETERSBURG, Russia — This week in Russia’s northern capital, the City Administration and community groups hosted the public campaign “March Against Hate”. Mark Grubarg, the Chairman of the Jewish community of S. Petersburg, took part in this event – a gathering whose objective is to demonstrate against inter-ethnic and inter-religious hatred. This movement was inspired by the memory of renowned ethnographer Nikolai Girenko, who was brutally murdered by nationalists in 2004.

The conference, known among the Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries who attend simply as the kinus ñ an abbreviated form of its name in Hebrew ñ begins Nov. 7. For five days, almost 3,000 shluchim from all over the world will attend sessions and share strategies about how best to reach Jews in every corner of the globe.

The event will take place and the Torah is being donated to the ‘Chabad Israeli Center of Rockville, MD’ at 216 Rollings Ave, Rockville, MD. IYH this Sunday, November 4th 12 PM. He describes the norm of othe congregations to require family synagogue membership and attendance i Hebrew school for a year or more before allowing children to be bar-mitzvahed He cites this practice as necessary for ensuring that the bar mitzvah will not be “withou meaning, an excuse for a party.” And he accuses Chabad of becoming a “purveyor o Jewish minimalism, lowering educational standards for our children and the community, teaching the lesson that “Judaism is not a serious endeavor and that even the mos significant milestones require only a modicum of commitment.
