1. This week’s Torah portion, as well as last week’s Torah portion (Parshas Vayakhel), discusses at length exactly how all the elements of the Mishkan (the Tabernacle) were made.

2. The Rebbe now questions this:

Three and four Torah portions earlier, in Parshas Terumah and Tetzaveh, the Torah told us exactly how Hashem (G-d) told Moshe Rabbeinu (Moses our teacher) to make the Mishkan. BROOKLYN, NY — Longtime Jewish activist Rabbi Zev Segal was remembered by colleagues as a strong leader who cared passionately about his community, the Land of Israel and the greater Jewish nation. After a day-long search, the 91-year-old was found dead on Thursday in Jersey City, N.J. He was 91.

Born in 1917, Segal came from a family that traces its lineage back to the 18th century sage known as the Vilna Gaon. His father was a respected rabbi in Chicago, and in the 1920s the son went to Israel to embark on his own Jewish studies. Segal later characterized his years in Jerusalem's Chevron Yeshiva as affording him the privilege to learn from the great Jewish teachers of the day.

In the year 1910, the czarist government convened a “rabbinical conference” – the aim of which was to enforce change concerning Jewish religious life. Prior to the meeting, participants were privately shown a list of 102 Jewish communities where pogroms were “likely” to “occur,” should the conference fail to produce the desired results.

To Rabbi Sholom DovBer of Lubavitch (Rashab) the issue was a matter of spiritual life and death. Throughout the conference, he railed the government’s plan. When he rose to speak, he publicly exposed the ministers who had threatened pogroms.

“True,” the Rebbe proceeded to declare: “We live under the dominion of the Russian regime. Their jurisdiction however, is restricted to material matters. It is not within the capacity of any power on earth to decree over matters of our faith.”

Arab Terrorist Attacks Jerusalem’s Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva: 8 Dead

(IsraelNN.com) An Arab terrorist infiltrated Jerusalem’s Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva at around 8:30 Thursday night and murdered eight Jews. At least 10 people were wounded; five are in serious to critical condition, a sixth victim was wounded moderately and four others, lightly.

The attacker entered the yeshiva and opened fire on students before he was gunned down himself by an armed civilian. Witnesses say that the attack began in the seminary’s library with the terrorist spraying bullets in every direction before anyone could react.
