Invocation and Mivtza Pesach in Illinois State Capital

SPRINGFIELD, IL [CHI] — In honor of Yud Aleph Nissan and Pesach, the Head Shliach of Illinois, Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz, was invited to give the invocation in the Senate of Illinois. Rabbi Moscowitz was introduced by the Senate President Senator Emil Jones and State Senator Ira Silverstein.

After his remarks, he and his son, Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Moscowitz, met with all the Jewish legislators in the state capital and gave them beautiful packages of Shmurah Matzah and literature about Pesach.

David Lazerson, right, a teacher at The Quest Center in Hollywood, is given the news Tuesday that he has been named to the National Teachers Hall of Fame by volunteer Carol Strickland.

Fire Damages Miami Beach Chabad Synagogue

MIAMI BEACH, FL — Police on Tuesday are investigating an overnight fire that gutted a Miami Beach synagogue during Passover.

Congregants of The Chabad Shul at 2401 Pinetree Dr. suspect the fire was intentionally set, and they say whoever did it also vandalized a Torah inside.

THORNHILL, Canada — He is a 52-year-old father and an Orthodox rabbi, but last week Lazer Danzinger tried something entirely new: he joined the Canadian Armed Forces.

“I’m actually excited about it. I like challenges, I like learning,” the Thornhill resident said of his new role as a chaplain.

Over Yom Tov, Two Incidents in Rochester Park

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Two incidents took place in the Lincoln Terrace Park, also known as the Rochester Park, upset the overall calm of the first days of Pesach in Crown Heights.

Sunday afternoon, the first day of Pesach, two boys walked into the park with a basketball, and as they were making their way across the park to the basketball courts they were approached by a group of 4 black young teens, who demanded they empty their pockets and hand over the ball.
