Over 700 Turn Out in Support of CSSY!

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — What can we expect from an organization that its name is long and not very comprehendible (Chevra Simchas Shabos VeYomtov), that is making a dinner for the first time in its history, its benefactors are not known or registered, and whos founder chanted “…people people, open your wallets, take out a dollar and give me the rest!”.

Turns out quite a bit!

OU Head chooses Kol Menachem Haggadah as pick of the Year

The following are testimonials on the new Kol Menachem Haggadah.

I write these words on the eve of Purim. At this time of year I receive, from authors and favorite bookstores, a number of new Haggados shel Pesach. I choose one for special study. There is no doubt that this year my selection will be the Kol Menachem, compiled and adapted by my dear friend Rabbi Chaim Miller with commentary and insights from the works of the late Lubavitcher Rebbe, zt”l.

Reform, Chabad join forces in Beijing

by Alison Klayman

BEIJING, China [JTA] — In a rare case of Jewish unity, Chabad and Reform Jewish organizations cooperate in Beijing to promote Jewish life in China’s capital city, as the recent celebrations of Purim demonstrated.

The two Purim celebrations seemed worlds apart.

At the Chabad-run service, a Lubavitcher rabbi chanted the megillah to an audience segregated by gender, and Beijing’s kosher restaurant catered the meal after the reading.

The Weekly Sedra – Shemini – The Elusive Pursuit of Spirituality

Rabbi Yoseph Kahanov Shliach to Jacksonville, FL

As a means of vanquishing his evil inclination, Reb Dovid of Lelov would frequently fast from Shabbos to Shabbos (throughout the daytime hours). During one such fast, while travelling, he found himself overcome by an incredible bout of thirst.

Chancing upon a spring of clear running water, only served to compound the situation. His thirst was now so strong that he could hardly resist. Just as he was about to succumb and partake of some refreshing water, he felt a new sense of resolve. In the end, he continued on his way not having yielded to his bodily demands.

This victory left him exhilarated and brimming with joy. It felt good to be able to exert so much self-control and resist his bodily dictates; powerful as they may have been. Yet his sense of delight was short-lived. He quickly became suspect of these flattering thoughts.
