CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — The wind and cool weather didn’t stop thousands of Crown Heights residents from joining the First Annual NY Friendship Walk on Sunday. Organizers and participants alike have labeled the event a major success.

Reb Shneur Zalman of Liadi, founder of the Chabad movement, was for a time, a disciple of Reb Menachem of Vitebsk (until the latter left Russia for the Holy Land in 1777).
One year on Simchas Torah, before Hakkafos (the circular procession for which the holiday of Simchas Torah is renowned), the entire synagogue was waiting for Reb Menachem Mendel to begin the recitation of the preceding verses, beginning with Atoh Hareisa. After a long unexplained silence, R' Menachem approached R' Shneur Zalman and said: “I perceive a hundred different ways to interpret this passage, but I cannot translate them into practice. I would hence prefer to refrain from reciting it.”
Reb Shneur Zalman protested: “But a person can never stand at the place which his eyes behold; for when he reaches that point he will see even farther. This is the typical order of things. So Rebbe, when you have realized these hundred ideas in practice, you will perceive yet more ideas and insights, and there will be no end to the matter.”
The Rebbe was quite pleased with this answer, and at once proceeded to recite: “Atoh Hareisa. . .”

Hundreds of Kids Participate in Hakhel Farbrengen!
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Packed wall-to-wall in the Hakhel Sukkah, hundreds of kids participated in a special Hakhel Farbrengen after attending children’s Smichas Beis Hashueva. Led by Rabbi Shimi Weinbaum the children sang Nigunim, heard stories and enjoyed nosh and refreshments.

Fire Chief does Mitzvah Lulov at Simchas Beis Hashuava
GAITHERSBURG, MD [CHI] — Over 100 people took part in the Simchas Beis Hashuava that took place at Chabad of Upper Montgomery County organized by the Shluchim Rabbis Sholom Raichik and Chesky Tenenbaum.
Hakhel Es HaAm, in Kharkov!
KHARKOV, Ukraine [CHI] — Over 800 people participated in a special Hakhel concert in Kharkov on Chol Hamoed Sukkos. Over 100 people came by bus from over 14 cities around the Kharkov, Summy and Poltava Region (which include the city’s of Haditch, Konotop, Shostka, Lubny and Summy) and participated in a seminar about Sukkos led by Rabbi Levi Raices and Rabbi Chaim Levinson.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — There was live music by the Piamenta band, who was later joined by special guest Avraham Fried. Bochurim and Anash danced until six in the morning, when Police cleared the street for morning traffic.
