Police Officer Assaulted while Trying to Disperse Crowd

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A police officer was assaulted and injured earlier tonight at around 1:45am in Crown Heights. The incident began when Police pulled over a car on Crown Street near the intersection of Nostrand Avenue, while performing the car stop a large crowd gathered and when one officer tried to disperse the crowd she was punched in the face and sustained injuries.

Beth Rivkah Montreal Grand Hakhel Gathering

MONTREAL, Canada [CHI] — Based on the directive of the Rebbe (14 Elul 5740) to organize Hakhel gatherings during Aseres Yemai Teshuva, Beth Rivkah of Montreal organized on Friday a grand Kinus Hakhel for all its 550 students together, starting from 18 month old “taf” in the pre-school through Kindergarten, Elementary and High School.

New Bill To Allow Condo Owners to Post Mezuzahs

WASHINGTON, DC — A new bill in Congress will seek to ensure that condo dwellers enjoy the same religious freedoms that others do. New York congressman, Jerrold Nadler, intends to make it illegal for apartment buildings or condo owners to regulate what residents display. If passed, the bill would overturn the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision earlier this summer.

Perv Exposes Himself to Jewish Woman

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Erev Shabbos a Shomrim member was alerted to a Black man who exposed himself to a Jewish woman on East New York Avenue near the Shuk, the member called for backup and police assistance in locating the pervert.

TODAY: Grand Opening of New Chesed Center!

Ahavas Chesed is an organization that aids people who need medical attention and support, and today they are opening up their, much needed, offices.

Located at 271 Kingston Avenue, between Lincoln Place and St. Johns Place, the new offices will be the center for all the calls as well as housing a year round kosher soup kitchen.

Rabbi Avrohom Leider, director of Ahavas Chesed, is inviting everyone to stop by and have a bite to eat and say lechaim between the hours of 4:00pm and 7:00pm.

Brit Mila Tradition Continues in Nizhny Novgorod

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, Russia [FJC] — On Friday, September 26th, the Jewish community of Nizhny Novgorod hosted a very important event in the lives of the community and one family – the Brit Mila (circumcision) of an infant boy on the eighth day of his life. The ceremony, which took place in the children’s medical clinic, was performed by Chief Mohel of Russia Yeshaya Shafit.
