CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A police officer was assaulted and injured earlier tonight at around 1:45am in Crown Heights. The victim is Police Officer Dzantiva, a three year veteran of the force, who had been previously injured on the job on Kingston Avenue along with five other police officers when a domestic dispute turned nasty, as we reported.

After attacking the police officer the perpetrator fled into the building on the corner, and a massive search followed, the officer called for backup and a police helicopter responded as well as numerous police officers, special units and detectives.

After a search that lasted nearly two hours police managed to apprehend the perp after going door to door until they managed to get a positive identification. Using the injured police officers handcuff the victim was hauled out into the patrol car of the officer he assaulted.

this just goes to show that the police have the resources to catch someone when THEY want to.

I just wish the police would act this way whenever a civilian gets mugged.Bring out the helicopter, light up the streets, call in 200 cops for backup, ESU units etc and scour the streets and buildings until they catch the perpetrator.

Dont get me wrong, I am happy the cops caught the guy who punched an officer in the face.I just wish the cops fought all crime in our area with the same ferocity.

I agree with JJ, the first thing that came to mind when i read this article was: why dont they do the same throrough search when ppl in ch get mugged, etc? they usually dont find who did it, but here they did which shows they can!

    Dear J.J.,
True, sort of. Don’t forget, attacking an officer is like attacking the government.

  • Concerned!

J.J. is correct … NYPD is not terribly concerned with crime unless it affects one of their own. Their main goal is to show up at everything that is newsworthy and get themselves and their cars and trucks seen on TV. Weak minded people see this P.R. and are impressed by it. It makes them believe that NYPD is doing a great job.

NYPD has been this way for ages … it will never change.

Why can’t the cops go door to door when something happens to us, we want the same protection.

  • A Shomrim Kiddush Hashem!

I saw a number or Shomrim members there, one of them was carrying a crate full of bottled water and giving them out to the cops at the scene, most of whom took one and thanked the Shomrim member!

The police should always rember who their friends are in this community, and in our case it always was Shomrim.

Thank you for being out there and patrolling our streets!
