Sh’vorim-t’rua
1) In the main shofar blowing – before musaf – in the sequence of t’keeya-sh’vorim-t’rua-t’keeya, the sh’vorim-t’rua should be blown in a single breath. The same applies when one blows to enable someone else to fulfill the mitzva (such as at home for family members, or on mivtza’im). However the shofar which is blown by mussaf is done with a breath in between the sh’vorim-t’rua.

LONGMONT, CO — A new year signals a new beginning. And for the local Jewish community, this Rosh Hashanah — the Jewish New Year, which begins Monday at sundown — it’s especially true.

Just in time for the high holy days, the Chabad Jewish Center of Longmont has leased space at 195 S. Main St., making it a public hub for Jews to celebrate and study their faith.

Presidential Message: Rosh Hashanah, 5769

I send greetings to those celebrating Rosh Hashanah.

On this occasion of spiritual reflection, people of the Jewish faith in our country and around the world recognize the blessings from the Almighty as they commemorate the anniversary of the creation of the world. During this holy time, men and women take time to remember the past, contemplate the sweetness of the new year, and look forward to a promising future.

This special occasion is also an opportunity to celebrate the history of the Jewish people and the values that bind us all together.

Laura and I send our best wishes for a meaningful Rosh Hashanah and L’shanah tovah.

Elul Zman at YNS Tzfas

TZFAS, Israel [CHI[] — What an amazing Elul zman it has been with bochurim filling the zal with the sounds of Nigleh and Chassidus. A very exciting event took place at the Chai Elul farbrengen when Hatomim Shneur Zalman Yanover made a Siyum Mesechta. The farbrengen went into the wee hours of the night with many stories told over of what Chassidus added to the world and the lessons that should be learnt of what Chassidus adds into our own personal lives.

Rosh Hashanah – The New Year

The Rebbe says:

1. The Talmud tells us that, “The Mitzvah of the day (of Rosh Hashanah) is blowing the Shofar”.

2. The Rebbe now quotes the Baal Shem Tov who explains the Shofar’s meaning:

The Baal Shem Tov explains the Shofar with a parable: Blowing the Shofar is like a child crying to his father and saying, “Father, father, save me”.

3. The Rebbe now quotes the previous Chabad Rebbe’im (leaders) who clarify and define this explanation of the Shofar:

The prayer room in the basement of the Community Synagogue on East Sixth Street fills up when Rabbi Simon Jacobson gives his weekly class.

To find the 10th man for a minyan, the quorum required in Orthodox Jewish services, some rabbis on the Lower East Side of Manhattan have been known in recent years to step into the street and stop passers-by. Are you Jewish? they ask.

Op-Ed: Comments, Comments and more Comments!

CrownHeights.info comments crack me up. Or make me mad. Or sad. Or proud. Or embarrassed. Or happy. Usually makes me snort.

They all go something like this:

First you get a set of:
“Well said”
“Thanks for finally speaking up”

Then you get some:
“I disagree….”

Then comes the heat:
“It’s all because of those wacko flag wavers”
