It was obvious to observers around the world that one of the designated targets of the Pakistani Islamist terrorists was the Mumbai Chabad House, the one Jewish center in Mumbai. The 10 Islamic terrorists who came from Pakistan to India chose their targets with great care.

If one assumes that the terrorists primary goals were to destabilize India, weaken growing Indian-Pakistani cooperation in fighting terrorism, and greatly increase Indian-Pakistani tension, hopefully to the point of military war between the two countries, every one of the targets made strategic sense. Slaughtering as many people as possible in Indias major economic center, including as many foreign tourists as possible at Mumbais finest hotels, also made sense.

KFAR CHABAD, Israel — “They killed three people, not two,” said Rabbi Shimon Rosenberg, the father of Rivka Holtzberg, during her funeral, indicating that she had been pregnant, Army Radio reported Tuesday.

WASHINGTON, DC [CHI] — U.S. President George Bush has sent a letter of condolences to the funeral of slain Mumbai Chabad Rabbi Gavriel and Mrs. Rivkah Holtzberg in Israel, today, via Rabbi Levi Shemtov, Washington director of American Friends of Lubavitch. Mayor Bloomberg signs the bill into law as Councilman Felder (L) and Weprin look on.

NEW YORK, NY [CHI] — Mayor Bloomberg signed Councilman Felder’s parking meter bill into law yesterday. The new law will clarify the rules for parking at a broken parking meter. Currently, New York City traffic rules create a confusing scheme where drivers can park at a missing meter up to the amount of time normally allowed at that parking zone, but caps the allowed time at one hour if the parking meter is broken. Nearly 40,000 tickets were given last year for parking for more than one-hour at a broken parking meter. The new law, which will take effect March 1st, allows motorists to park at a broken meter for the full length of time otherwise allowed in the parking zone. If the broken meter is in a 2-, 4-, or 6- hour parking zone, then motorists can park at the broken parking meter for two, four, or six hours.
