ALBERTA, Canada [CHI] — In honor of the 20th anniversary of Chabad Lubavitch of Alberta, Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper joined the Head Shluchim of Alberta – Rabbi Menachem and Rochel Matusof as well as the Canadian Federation of Chabad Lubavitch including regional Shluchim from across the country at the 20th Annual Community Menorah Lighting in the City Hall Atrium of Calgary, Alberta.

Lighting the Menorah in Mumbai

MUMBAI, India [CHI] — In front of the eyes of the world media the delegation to India lit the 5th light of the Chanukah menorah in front of the destroyed Chabad house in an emotional ceremony flowed by the heartwarming singing of Haneiros Halalu.

Alternate Side Parking Suspended Wednesday & Thursday

Alternate side parking (street cleaning) regulations will be suspended on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, for snow removal. All other regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect. However Thursday, December 25, is a major legal holiday, and parking meter regulations are also suspended. Also on major legal holidays, stopping, standing, and parking are permitted, except in areas where stopping, standing, and parking rules are in effect 7 days a week (for example, “No Standing Anytime”).

Returning to the Carnage of Terror, to Spread Light

MUMBAI, India [CHI] — Yesterday, Wednesday, a delegation of Anash and Shluchim traveled to Mumbai, the city which was held by terror for close to 4 days and where six Jews were murdered among them the Shluchim Rabbi Gavriel and Rivkah Holtzberg. This Chanukah the mission was to rekindle the light in the face of the terror and destruction.

Update from the Darchai Menachem Auction

BH Its been busy at Yeshiva Darchai Menachem. Every night of Chanukah another drawing with exciting programs have taken place. On Sunday, the first night of Chanukah Darchai Menachem had a menorah competition like never before. Menorahs were built out of all kinds of things you can ever imagine. “Judging the winner this year was pretty tough” says Rabbi Lieder, one of the judges, “all the boys did a wonderful job”.

Chabad Lights The Lamp – 14,277 in Attendance

WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY [CHI] — On the third night of Chanukah The Nassau Coliseum on Long Island witnessed history being made. As the first period of the hockey game, Islanders vs the Thrashers ended. The Zamboni entered the arena followed by a 6 food Menorah.

All in attendance excitedly awaited the entry of the Chabad team led by Rabbi Yossi Lieberman of Chabad of West Hempstead along with his 3 Lamplighters and cantor Joshua Levine.

Chabads of Manhattan’s Chanukah on Ice!

NEW YORK, NY [CHI] — Close to 1000 people took to the ice on Central Park’s Trump Wollman Rink for an evening of Jewish unity on Tuesday, December 23, the third night of Chanukah. Chabad’s Chanukah on Ice NYC drew people from all five boroughs and beyond, to as far way as Hungary, South America, Israel and France.
