Two Car Accident on Empire and Kingston
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Two SUV’s collided mid-intersection after one of them blew threw a red light at high speed. The incident took place at around 1:00am as the two cars, a late model Ford driven by a black man and an older model Ford driven by a black woman, crossed the intersection of Kingston Avenue and Empire Boulevard, each blaming the other for running the light.

Our Western superpower has much to learn from a younger Middle Eastern democracy. If exit polls are accurate, Israel has elected its second female Prime Minister in 60 years. To be sure, Golda Meir was her country's fourth head of state, but she was hardly the first Jewish woman in a leadership position. Israel's being ahead of its time, is as old as time itself. Throughout our people's history, Jewish women have not only been looked up to and respected, but followed and revered.

Jewish “New Year” for Trees Celebrated by All Ages
GOSHEN, NY [CHI] — The recent Jewish holiday of Tu B’Shvat (literally, the 15th day of the month of Shevat on the Jewish calendar), the Jewish “New Year for the Trees” was celebrated through creative activities and programs by all ages with Chabad of Orange County, led by Rabbi Pesach and Chana Burston. “This is the season in which the earliest-blooming trees in the Land of Israel emerge from their winter sleep and begin a new fruit-bearing cycle,” explains Rabbi Burston. “We mark this day by eating fruit, particularly from the kinds that are singled out by the Torah in its praise of the bounty of the Holy Land: Grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives and dates.”

Their classroom was damaged in the Moitzei Shabbos fire (Click Here for that article). The damaged classroom is expected to be repaired in the coming days. In the mean time the students are dedicating their time to learning and thanking hashem for keeping the entire Gershowitz family safe.

NEW YORK, NY — The International Conference of Shluchos (f. representatives) concluded Sunday at the gala banquet at the New York Hilton. As 2,900 women poured into the hotel, they greeted old friends and relatives warmly. And at each person’s place, the joyful faces of Rabbi Gavriel and Mrs. Rivkah Holtzberg, adorning the latest issue of Lubavitch International, smiled up at them.

As the Shluchos all gathered in the Manhattan Hilton for the Banquet the young Shluchos gathered in Beis Rivkah on Crown Street for their own Banquet. The young Shluchos sang and danced together with the councilors and friends, watched a video of the Rebbe and enjoyed a delicious dinner.

NEW YORK, NY [CHI] — This years Kinus HaShluchos gala banquet was hosted in the Manhattan Hilton hotels large hall, with Shluchos from around the world joing with their Baalabatim and Mekurovim packing into the hall and filling it to capacity.

An erudite and wise woman, Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka carried the mantle of her exalted position in a most humble and unpretentious fashion. Though she was the wife of a leader revered by hundreds of thousands, almost nothing was known about her until after her passing, when those who knew her felt that they could tell of her life and personality without violating her jealously guarded privacy.
