NEW YORK [AP] — New York state is making it simpler to get transportation information. Commuters and other travelers can dial 511 for updates in their area. They also can visit www.511ny.org.

The 511 service ties together information from numerous agencies. Topics include commuter and subway service, road conditions, buses, ferries, carpools and vanpools.

TASHKENT [FJC] — This year, the Jewish community of Tashkent hosted what turned out to be the largest Passover (Pesach) Seder in the CIS this year. More than 650 Jews participated in the event, which was organized by Rabbi Avraham Dovid Kolton, a Chabad Lubavitch emissary serving in the region, and his wife Chana Kolton. Another 500 Jews took part in a number of separate Seders, held in various cities across Uzbekistan.

Chabad Houses in California Unite in Birchas HaChama

LOS ANGELES, CA [CHI] — Several Chabad Houses in the eastern sections of Los Angeles including Chabad Centers of: Los Feliz, Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena, Studio City, Mount Olympus, University of Southern California and Larchmont, gathered together at the famous Griffith Observatory for Birchas HaChama. The eastern observation terrace at the Griffith Observatory is known as one of the best places in the entire Los Angeles to watch the sun rise. The brocho was said under a brilliantly bright sunrise, and a beautiful blue sky with not one cloud in the sky — despite weather forecasts of heavy clouds and rain. It was a truly spectacular event with many people in participation and a genuine kiddush shem Lubavitch.

Birchas Hachamah Unites Communities in Michigan

WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI [CHI] — All five orthodox Kehilos of Farmington Hills and West Bloomfield MI, which include three Chabad centers- Bais Chabad of Farmington Hills- Rabbi Chaim Moshe Bergstein, Bais Chabad of West Bloomfield- Rabbi Elimelech Silberberg, and The Shul- Rabbi Kasriel Shemtov, joined together for Birchas Hachama at the Jewish Community Center of West Bloomfield. Close to five hundred people joined for the service, which began with Shachrit and was followed by a Siyum Bichoros by Rabbi Chaim Moshe Bergstein and Mendel Shemtov.

Little Moshe has passed through the time of danger. He is healthy and clever, and if he’s sometimes clingy, that’s fine with Rivki. Staying busy with him, with all her work, keeps difficult thoughts at bay. Such as: Why are she and Gabi here, amid the stench and chaos and otherness of Mumbai? They could have been in Brooklyn or Israel instead, with family and comforts nearby to ease their sadness.

But why think about what can’t be helped? They are here because that’s what the Rebbe inspired them to do. And look at the blessings their sacrifice has brought them, just as he said it would: Moshe, their miracle, and now another child on the way. God willing, the family will grow and bring honor to their mission.

Sixth of eleven,the middlest of middle children, Rivka Rosenberg, born in 1980, grows up in Afula, Israel, in a Lubavitcher home: a smiler, a laugher, knowing how to fit in yet managing to be heard. Everyone calls her Rivki. “Not meek,” a friend says. “Not recessive. Full of life. Always looking to connect. That’s the secret.” The friend pauses. “And that’s the problem.”
