DZERZHINSK, Russia [FJC] — In Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Region, the Jewish community of Dzerzhinsk has launched a new video project. The community has already gained successful experience in creating a film on its own, but has now taken the decision to not stop at just one individual film story. Over the next two years, this blossoming Jewish community will be issuing a series of bright and cognitive video vignettes dedicated to the history and traditions of Jewish holidays.

LAS VEGAS, NV — The Metropolitan Police Committee on Fiscal Affairs is scheduled to approve a $350,000 payment next week for Detective Steve Riback, an observant Orthodox Jew who claimed he was experiencing religious discrimination on the job.

Oldest Full-Time Pulpit Rabbi Passes Away

BROOKLYN, NY — The Jewish community united in mourning Tuesday, upon the passing of Rabbi David B. Hollander. Rabbi Hollander, who at his death was the leader of the Hebrew Alliance in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, also served as rabbi at the Mount Eden Synagogue in the Bronx and was the former president of the Rabbinical Council of America. The 96-year old was the oldest full-time pulpit rabbi in the world.

Bnos Menachem Hosts Preschool Hakel Gathering

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — Tuesday morning, Bnos Menachem hosted a preschool Hakel gathering, joined by Bais Chaya Mushka and Mosdos day care center. In this year of shnas hakel the Crown Heights preschools made a special effort to get together in the spirit of achdus for torah, tefilah and tzedaka. The meidelach also enjoyed a very inspiring puppet show. What better gft can we give the alter Rebbe on chof daled teves? Sitting together with our freinds and neighbors from different schools in our shchuna gave us the true feeling of hakel!

Police Search For Suspect In Crown Heights Bank Robbery

CROWN HEIGHTS [NY1] — Police are looking for the man who held up a bank in Brooklyn earlier this month.

The robbery happened at a Washington Mutual branch on Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights on the morning of January 5th.

Hate Crime in the Kingston Avenue Subway Station

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — At around 10:30 this morning, Wednesday, a MTA commuter called Shomrim and alerted them to a number of hate graffiti on the subway platform. The graffiti consisted of a Jewish Star of David being equated to a swastika and the words “long live hamas” underneath it.

Chabad of Wall Street to Launch Fundraiser With New Torah Scroll

NEW YORK NY — Chabad-Lubavitch of Wall Street has disclosed plans to launch a fundraiser and dedicate the writing of a new Torah scroll in memory of the late Mrs. Charlotte Rohr, of blessed memory, matriarch of the philanthropic Rohr family.

The first letters in the Torah scroll will be inscribed at a black-tie fundraising drive for the Chabad center, March 16, at the Jewish Heritage Museum in New York City.

Intruder in Bais Rivkah, Police Take 30 Minutes to Respond

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A teacher had her cell phone stolen and her purse rummaged through by an intruder inside of Bais Rivkah high school in Crown Street. The disturbing incident took place at around 12:45pm on Tuesday where a teacher spotted a black man with a light complexion and white hair and a large build who did not work for the school roaming around the hallways on the second floor.
