2nd Yohrzeit of R Levitansky – Hakhael Farbrengen in Simcha Monica

S MONICA, CA [CHI] — In Chabad House Simcha Monica a Hakhel Dinner and Farbrengen was held commerating the second Yortzeit of the Shliach HoRav Avrohom HaLevi ע”ה Levitansky, and celebrating 40 years of his dedication to Camp Gan Yisroel.

Over 500 people attended the event, including Rabonim, Roshei Yeshiva, Mashpiyim, Shluchim, Anash and Mekurovim. The common denominator between those who attended, was that the Chabad House was filled with people whose lives have been touched by Rabbi Levitansky, and who came to pay tribute, to share memories and be inspired to continue in the ways they were taught and had seen by Rabbi Levitansky.

Picture of the Day! – Low Flying NYPD Helicopters!

Five NYPD helicopters hovered low above Crown Heights this morning leaving many residents wondering what was going on. The helicopters were headed to the funeral of a police officer that was shot and killed in a friendly fire incident over the weekend. He was off duty at the time. His funeral took place in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.

It is with great sadness we inform you of the passing of Reb Shmuel Leib (Stu) Straus OBM, 66, a longtime resident of Crown Heights.

Reb Shmuel Leib came to Crown Heights from Seattle, Washington where he founded the Lubavitcher Shul, starting out of his garage there and later moving in to the ‘big shul’ where Rabbi Alter Levitin now serves as Rabbi. After moving to Crown Heights he founded another Shul in his basement on St. Johns Place.

He is survived by his wife, Nechama, and his children Mordechai (Mark) (Seattle, WA), Shloimy (Steven) (Seattle, WA), Shimon (Spencer) (Crown Heights).

The Levaya will be tomorrow morning, Friday and will be leaving from Shomrim Hadas Chapel and 9:00 am and will be passing by 770 at 9:30 am.

Sydney Pays Tribute to Rabbi Levitansky

SYDNEY, Australia [CHI — On Tuesday night over 200 people turned up in tribute to Rabbi Levitansky in Sydney Australia. The event was coordinated by his daughters Rivky Shuchat And Mushka Levitansky who are on shlichus at South Head Synagogue under the leadership of Rabbi Milecki. The event brought together mostly people who had never known Rabbi Levitansky.

Abrahamson Wins P.A.L. Competition Second Time!

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — For the second year running, 17-year-old Yosef Abrahamson, a student in Yeshiva Darchai Menachem, entered the Police Athletic League essay competitio. He won the ‘Commanding Officer of the 71st Precinct Award’ for the essay he wrote on Gangs and Interpersonal Violence.

At the ceremony this morning in One Police Plaza all the winners were awarded a plaque in honor of their achievements. Administrator and teacher Rabbi Chaim Perl said “we are very proud of Yosef, and we wish him much luck,” Yosef is graduating YDM this year.

Info to be Menachem Avel the Gottleib Family

The Gottleib family is sitting Shiva after the passing of their daughter and sister, Chaya Mushka Gottleib OBM of Crown Heights, after a lengthy illness. She was 24.

They are at 456 Brooklyn Ave, Apt 1A [between Empire Blvd and Sterling St], from today, Wednesday until next week, Tuesday morning.
