Gathering together for the first-ever Northeastern Intercollegiate Shabbaton – a weekend program stressing Jewish pride and unity sponsored by area Chabad-Lubavitch centers and the Chabad on Campus International Foundation – some 500 college students bonded and shared stories of maintaining Jewish life in bastions of academia.
Students Take Conference’s Jewish Lessons Back to Campus
Gathering together for the first-ever Northeastern Intercollegiate Shabbaton – a weekend program stressing Jewish pride and unity sponsored by area Chabad-Lubavitch centers and the Chabad on Campus International Foundation – some 500 college students bonded and shared stories of maintaining Jewish life in bastions of academia.
For the first time, JLI’s Advanced Learning Initiative, MyShiur is now available to Anash in the Crown Heights community in a special shiur presented by the course author. The new course, Explorations in Talmud: Tractate Shabbat, is geared to students without any prior Gemorah experience as well as to seasoned learners. It will include an examination of the biblical sources for the 39 melachot as well as a foundational study of underlying principles that define the term melachah.

MONROE, NY [CHI] — The Jewish Women’s Circle, led by Chana Burston, director of Chabad of Orange County, recently held its opening event of the year. Attended by over thirty women from throughout the county, participants learned the art of silk painting & designed magnificent challah covers with Courtni Hale of Sheer D Lite. Chana Burston led an interactive learning group with the theme of Shabbat, entitled, “Sanctifying Time and Space.” All enjoyed a hearty soup bar with condiments.

The Learn-A-Thon is scheduled to start today, Zayin Chesvan, and will run for only four weeks, concluding on Zayin Kislev. A special raffle with exciting prizes will be held on Chof Kislev, Rosh Hashana L’chassidus, which is also Levi’s birthday.

Friendship Circle in IL Raises $23,000
CHICAGO, IL — On Sunday, October 18th, under sunny skies and among colorful rustling leaves, over 350 individuals gathered proudly together, to express solidarity on behalf of those with special needs, at the Friendship Circle of Illinois’ (FCIL’s) First Annual Chicagoland Walk4Friendship, held at Field Middle School in Northbrook.
In a heartfelt letter written by a few friends of the Swerdlov family, who lost their precious 3 year old girl Atla Shula in a terrible accident, they decided to run a toy drive in her memory. In the letter they wrote “when a child leaves this world at such a young age we have to do whatever we can in his/her merit,” adding “I started to think of a way in which we could help other children in her honor and being that Chanukah is around the corner…”
