MONROE, NY [CHI] — The Jewish Women’s Circle, led by Chana Burston, director of Chabad of Orange County, recently held its opening event of the year. Attended by over thirty women from throughout the county, participants learned the art of silk painting & designed magnificent challah covers with Courtni Hale of Sheer D Lite. Chana Burston led an interactive learning group with the theme of Shabbat, entitled, “Sanctifying Time and Space.” All enjoyed a hearty soup bar with condiments.

Crime Down Around City, but Spiking in Crown Heights

BROOKLYN — Crime is down so far this year across the city, but some Brooklyn neighborhoods have seen a surge of shootings, NYPD statistics show.

There were 240 gunshot victims in South Brooklyn through early October, up from 179 during the same period in 2008 because of a spike in violence in Crown Heights, East Flatbush and Coney Island.

In the letter they wrote “when a child leaves this world at such a young age we have to do whatever we can in his/her merit,” adding “I started to think of a way in which we could help other children in her honor and being that Chanukah is around the corner…”
