Coast to coast there will be two gatherings, in New York and California, marking the Shloshim to the tragic passing of Alta Shula Swerdlov OBM, the daughter of Rabbi Yossi and Hindel Swerdlov, Shluchim in Israel.
Following the monumental success of this year’s Kinus Hashluchim, topped with the gala banquet in the armory, the Shluchim got together in 770 and sat down and Farbrenged with each other in what has become a repeating tradition.

The memorial will include an address by Rabbi Gabi Holtzberg’s father, Rabbi Nachman Holtzberg, the patron of the Rohr Chabad House in Mumbai and philanthropist, Mr. George Rohr, and Rabbi Binyomin Krasiansky as well as a memorial performance by Avraham Fried and musical tribute by Moshe Nunez. The event will take place at Chabad of the Upper East Side.

SHOCKING: Thursday evening, after sitting through an hour-long recitation of the jury’s verdicts in Sioux Falls, Iowa, Reb Shalom Mordechai Rubashkin was detained pending a bail hearing at the insistence of Peter Deegan. If that were not shocking enough, the ordeal he was subsequently put through is positively offensive, contemptible, and a black mark on the justice system of the United States.
Reb Shalom Mordechai was taken by the US Marshals service to South Dakota State penitentiary in Sioux Falls pending transfer to Iowa. He was not allowed to make a phone call to inform his lawyers or his family of his location. One of the Marshals, upon learning of this, was nice enough to call the family. They would have otherwise not known where he was.
Emissaries of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement are a hardy lot — part envoys, part pioneers — who agree to settle anywhere in the world where their leaders decide that Jewish communities need bolstering, whether in Anchorage or Bangkok or northern Kyrgyzstan.
Often the only Lubavitchers for miles around, they are used to being gawked at and asked to explain themselves, usually in a nice way, though not always. “How long did it take to grow that beard, dude?” is a pretty common query in the United States, they say.
