Struck Boy is Family’s Second Tragedy

A heartbroken Brooklyn family on Sunday buried a 9-year-old son struck and killed by a car – just five years after the boy’s younger brother tragically drowned.

The sobbing father of Joshua Ganzfried escorted the small wooden coffin from Congregation Kehilas Yakov Pupa as about 500 Hasidic Jews packed the Williamsburg street.

Shlomo Ganzfried, 38, lost a 2-year-old son, Amron, on June 26, 2004.

The tot drowned in a pond in Westchester County after wandering away from a service his parents were attending at a synagogue.

Boy Killed in Accident on Way to Shul Shabbos Morning

WILLIAMSBURG — A car struck and killed a 9-year-old boy in Williamsburg Saturday morning, police say. According to authorities, the 54-year-old driver of a Honda Accord was making a turn onto Wallabout Street at around 8 a.m. when she plowed into the child. Police say it appears the 9-year-old may have run into traffic. He was taken to Brooklyn Hospital, where he later died.

The symbolism will not be lost on fight fans when Salita steps into the ring to face Khan, 22, a Brit of Pakistani descent, in a bout likely to take place in December in London, according to World Boxing Association sources who say the combatants are in advanced negotiations.

It’s the first time a Jew and a Muslim have fought for a title, said Brooklyn boxing-gym owner Tommy Gallagher.

ISRAEL — Tragedy struck the family of late Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon again Sunday, when his son Capt. Asaf Ramon was killed in a crash while flying an Israel Air Force F16-A.

Ilan Ramon, Israel’s first astronaut was one of seven crew members killed when the U.S. space shuttle Columbia disintegrated upon re-entry on February 1, 2003.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Friday afternoon, a duo of not-so-bright muggers snatched a shopping bag of frozen chickens from two Jewish girls. The incident took place on Crown Street when the two muggers, a Black man in his mid 20’s and a Black girl in her late teens, walked passed the two Jewish girls and snatched one of their shopping bags.

Turns out the bag they stole contained frozen chickens.
