Rubashkin Trial Delayed, Could be Moved Out of Iowa

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA [AP] — A federal judge on Monday delayed the trial of four former top managers at an Iowa slaughterhouse where 389 people were arrested last year in what was the largest immigration raid in U.S. history at the time.

U.S. District Court Judge Linda Reade agreed to an Oct. 13 trial date as she considers whether to move the trial out of Cedar Rapids, about 75 miles from where the kosher Agriprocessors Inc. operated in Postville. Defense attorneys want it moved to another state.

By Rocco Parascandola for the NY Daily News

Rabbi Aaron Raskin of the Congregation B’nai Avraham

This guy sure has chutzpah.

A career criminal befriended by rabbis at a Brooklyn Heights synagogue – who gave him food and money – returned the favor by busting into the house of worship and stealing whatever he could, police sources said.

Op-Ed: On Foreclosure, Loan Modifications and Credit Repair

by Lazer Avtzon

PSA – Thirteen Cardinal Rules on Home Foreclosure/Loan Modifications and Credit Card Repair/Settlement or Consolidated debt.

Since my last article generously published by CrownHeights.info, I have met with dozens of local families and have worked with many to modify their loans and fix their credit.

Every case is unique and different and there is no one set of rules or advice that can be given.

With more than 200 local families currently several months behind in their mortgage payments, spiraling credit card debt, and tuition bills that need to be addressed at the beginning of the year, not to mention, the upcoming month of Tishrei, I felt the need to share just a few thoughts to help all those families that are either too embarrassed to ask for help, or who think they can do it themselves.

There is no specific order to these rules, each is important in its own right.

By Reuven Blau for the NY Post

NEW YORK — The city handed out 13,000 fewer parking summonses and saw its ticket revenues nose-dive by $30 million last fiscal year — despite a record number of traffic agents on the street.

Downtrodden motorists too broke to pay their tickets are driving the sudden plummet in revenue, driver advocates theorized.

Cries of Help Spare Bochur from Friday Night Gang Beating

Shomrim. Illustration Photo.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Montgomery Street residents were startled when cries of “help, help!” were shouted late Friday night. The incident took place between Albany and Troy Avenues at around 11:30pm when a Bochur was walking home from a Sholom Zochor, and was surrounded by a group of around 5 Black males of various ages.

One resident told CrownHeights.info that he heard the calls for help and he immediately ran out, sparing the Bochur a beating, and spotted a number of the group fleeing. A number of the residents gave chase and caught two of the group.
