As is a long standing tradition, every Motzoai Shabbos Chanukah the Mitzvah Tanks, that are busy doing Chanukah Mivtzoim every day, along with cars topped with Menorahs set out from 770 in Crown Heights on a parade to Grand Army Plaza in Manhattan where they pass by as they light the worlds biggest Menorah.

MONROE TWP., NJ — The state’s largest Chanukah menorah, which was supposed to be lit tonight for the first night of the holiday, was damaged after it fell over and hit a traffic signal on Wednesday in Monroe Township, police said.

The holiday marks the Jews' rebellion against the Hellenistic Greek leader Antiochus, who outlawed Jewish religious customs in the second century B.C. When the Jews rededicated the temple in Jerusalem, the wicks of the menorah burned for eight days, seven longer than expected for the amount of oil they had.

Chabad of Tallahassee Celebrates Chanukah with Governor Crist

For the Tenth consecutive year in Tallahassee, Florida Governor Charlie Crist enjoyed the Chanukah celebration arranged by Chabad of Tallahassee, the local branch of Jewish outreach giant Chabad-Lubavitch. The event was well attended with over 100 people, including many Chabad Rabbis from all over Florida. You can feel that the amazing energy of Chanukah was felt vibrantly in the air.

The menorah lightings will be broadcast from eight locations, including the Western Wall, in Jerusalem, The National Menorah in front of The White House in Washington D.C., as well as menorah lightings in Paris, New York City and a half dozen other cities around the globe. At home, with the children taking a lead role, families will light a small candelabra, or menorah, and say a blessing. Some may place the menorah, with its slender, quick burning candles, beside the window for outsiders to see. These gatherings, often accompanied by traditional fried foods such as potato pancakes and jelly-filled doughnuts, are for the most part intimate and cozy.
