CHICAGO [WLS] — It must have seemed odd to FBI agents that Chicago terror suspect David Coleman Headley carried a book with him called How to Pray like a Jew. Mr. Headley isn’t Jewish. He is an Islamic fundamentalist.
ALLENWOOD, PA — Gordon M., 36, is an inmate at a Virginia prison where he recently participated in a yeshiva program. Thethree-day intensive Torah study experience, he says, were “the happiest and most joyful days in my last ten years of incarceration.”

With sadness we inform you of the passing of the beloved Gabbai of Montreal, Rabbi Meir Yechezkel Junik. He was eighty years old.
Rabbi Junik was born in the Soviet Union to a devotedly Chasidishe family. He was imprisoned in Siberia for nine long years where he suffered untold hardships due to his religious beliefs. While his family escaped from the Communists, he remained behind the Iron Curtain where he married and raised his children to the highest levels of Chasidishkeit.
While there, the Rebbe gave his brother, Rabbi Berel Junik, many Brochos and Havtochos to ensure that they would be released from Russia. He finally moved with his family to Montreal to live near his father, the prominent chosid, Rabbi Naftoli Junik.
He is survived by his wife, Sara, sisters Ettel Jurkowitz and Chana Morozow, children Chaya Tzirel Druk (Detroit, MI), Berel (Crown Heights), Shmuel (Brooklyn, NY), and Shimshon Aaron (Crown Heights), grandchildren, and great-grand children of which many are Shluchim of the Rebbe.
The Levaya will take place on Sunday and will be leaving from the Shomrei Hadas Chapel at 10:00am and will be passing 770 at approximately 10:45am.

Devorah Benjamin has a simple reason why she, Shmuly Brashevitzky and a host of volunteers work so hard to “make” memorable weddings for Lubavitcher Jewish couples who can’t afford to do it themselves.
“The wedding is the foundation of a life, of a home,” Benjamin said. “It’s the beginning of everything, your children, your grandchildren.
Two drunks were walking down the street when towards them came a harmless looking Jew. One drunk elbowed the other: “Hey, Vanya, what do you say we give this Yid a good working over? Eh?”
“Well, we could,” replied the second, “except the guy looks mighty fit. We’d be lucky if he doesn’t give us a hearty thrashing. I’d say we make haste while we can.”
“Vanya!” replied his friend in surprise, “What have you been drinking? Why in the world would anyone want to harm two innocent people?”
“If my scientific theories prove correct,” said Albert Einstein, then Germany will claim that I am German by birth; France will claim I am French by residence and America will claim I am an American as a result of my new citizenship. If, on the other hand, my theories prove incorrect, they will all say I am just a Jew!”

Last year Chabad of West Hempstead was presented with an opportunity by the NY Islanders for Pirsumei Nissah by lighting the Menorah during a hockey game on the third night of Chanukah. This was a small scale success considering the potential. At the event hundreds of Menorahs and candles were also distributed to unaffiliated Jews walking through the promenade at the Nassau Coliseum, who approached the Chabad booth and indicated that they had not yet lit the Menorah.
