2nd Shabbos Achdus in Crown Heights

This week marked the first Yartzeit since the massacre of the Rebbes Shluchim to Mumbai. While on duty, the bright candles of Rabbi Gabi and Rivka Holtzberg HYD and their Chabad House guests were extinguished. This Shabbos is dedicated as a Shabbos of Chizuk and Achdus in tribute to these two soldiers of the Rebbe, killed on the frontlines of Shlichus.

To Whom Does The Progeny Belong? – The Antics of Misinterpretation and Displaced Credit

by Rabbi Yoseph Kahanov, Jax., FL

Unable to afford a first rate tailor, a young peasant employed the services of a substandard craftsman to sew him an outfit for his impending wedding. One glimpse at the dismal result brought tears to the young man’s eyes.

“How do you expect me to wear a coat with the right sleeve four inches shorter than the left,” cried the distraught groom.

“It’s not that big a deal,” replied the tailor. “Just pull-in your right arm a bit.”

“And what about the pants,” demanded the shaken groom. “The left leg is six inches longer than the right!”

“You’re being overly fussy,” retorted the poor-excuse-for-a-tailor. “All you need to do is bend your right knee slightly and it will be alright.” And so it went. Every problem with the bungled workmanship was corrected with another modification in the wearer’s posture.

At the wedding, the assembled gasped in shock as the sorry looking groom hobbled down the aisle; his figure contorted so as to fit the suit. “What a disfigured young man,” noted some of the guests. “Oy, Ah Rachmunis!” sighed others, “he’s Eppes a cripple.”

Opinion – The Real World: Chabad

By Ben Sales for the New Voices

I assumed that I would walk out of the Crown Heights subway stop into throngs of Lubavitcher Hassidim surrounded by cheap kosher restaurants, Jewish ritual shops and stores selling stacks of identical black hats. Instead what I found on Sunday evening was an empty sidewalk save for a few men chilling on the front stoop of an apartment and a woman carrying home her groceries.

They weren’t Jewish: this was the other side of Crown Heights.

Rabbi Osdoba: “I Never Gave Permission for Messira C”V!”

After speaking to both Rabbis Osdoba and Schwei they told us how they were hurting not only from the false statements in their name in this matter, but many others that have come out over the years. Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba released yesterday this letter in his defense, and that of the Shomrim Six. “Since it has been said in my name as if I heaven forbid gave permission to give over [Masser] and to inform [Malshin] on the members of Shomrim. I am here to clarify that this is a complete and total lie, and it is entirely not in my hands, since this sort of act is prohibited by Halacha in every way possible.”

Crown Heights Dad, Two Toddlers Die In Tragic Fire

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn — There appears to be two major mistakes that could have made the difference between life and death in a Crown Heights fire that took three lives.

First, fire officials say there were no smoke detectors in the apartment and secondly, it seems it took way too long to respond.

Article: Jpost. Photos: Israel Bardugo for CrownHeights.info

Chabad held a memorial dinner on Wednesday in honor of Rabbi Gavriel Holzberg and his wife Rivka, who were killed when terrorists raided the Chabad house in Mumbai a year ago on the Hebrew calendar.

A crowd of well over 2,000 guests filled a massive tent in Kfar Chabad set up outside the replica of the Rebbe’s house in Brooklyn. A service manager said over 100 people worked the event, including at least 80 waiters. Organizers said the demand for tickets was “enormous” and that thousands of people who wanted to attend were turned away.
