Photo Gallery: Over 700 at the Seder in Cusco, Peru

CUSCO, Peru [CHI] — It’s not for no reason that Cusco, Peru is known as the ‘Tel Aviv’ of South America. With tens of thousands of Israeli tourists visiting the city each year, almost every street corner is decorated with a sign in Hebrew – the city’s second language.

Last week the city played host to an event that will not be forgotten by tourists and locals alike, an event only Chabad of Cusco could provide; a Pesach Seder for close to a thousand people.

Shluchim to Denver Colorado, Rabbi Benjy and Leah Brackman, hosted their 7th annual Pesach Seder at the Westin Westminster Hotel Ball Room. The Seder began an hour before sunset, allowing the Bochurim, Shmuel Shapira and Levi Ceitlin don Tefillin with the male participants; while sitting at the Seder table before the onset of the holiday.

Issac Zellermeiar – A Kind Man Devoted to Chesed

While the image of people dressed in silly costumes following a hearse may have seemed paradoxical to onlookers, the funeral procession on Purim morning of this year was, in actuality, a celebration of a unique man’s life.

To those who knew him, Isaac Zellermaier was a kind, selfless man. The simple, cheerful shopkeeper devoted many hours of his day to helping others before himself, primarily by responding to Hatzalah calls and by assisting fellow Jews with the legal system. Crown Heights residents knew they could depend on Isaac, and frequented his shop whenever they needed assistance. Although he was regarded for years as a kind-hearted gentleman, the extent of his noble nature only became apparent in the days surrounding his death.

The Rebbe says:

1. The Passover Seder has fourteen steps . Maggid (telling over the story of the exodus) is the fifth step. During this stage we raise our Matzah (unleavened bread) and say:

“The Matzah that we eat, what is the reason? Because the dough of our fathers could not become leavened before the King of kings, the Holy One, Blessed be He, revealed Himself to them and redeemed them, as it is said, ‘They baked the dough that they had brought out of Egypt into Matzah cakes, because it had not fermented, for they were driven out of Egypt and could not delay; nor had they prepared any provisions for themselves’ ” .

2. The Rebbe now asks a question which the previous Chabad leaders have also asked:
