NEW YORK — A former federal judge and a former U.S. attorney have authored a letter to the judge in the Sholom Rubashkin case, criticizing the recommendation of prosecutors that Rubashkin receive life in prison. The letter describes the government's sentencing recommendation as “draconian” and notes the federal sentencing guidelines equate Rubashkin's suggested punishment to those convicted of first-degree murder.

Rabbi Moshe Eliyahu Gerlitzky, who fled Nazi occupied Poland and continued to help found and run the first Chabad yeshivah in Montreal, Canada, passed away on April 4. He was 94.
Born in 1915 in the Polish industrial city of Lodz, Moshe Eliyahu was raised by his parents Avraham Yitzchok and Leah Gerlitzky in a home imbued with Chasidic warmth and a spirit of loving kindness towards others.

I thank Hashem for his kindness that he has bestowed upon our community that has enabled us and has given us a chance to rid ourselves from all unwanted and unnecessary behavior associated with strife and lack of Ahavas Yisroel.
