Prominent U.S. Rabbis Urge Release of Sholom Rubashkin

WASHINGTON, DC [CHI] — A group of the nation’s most prominent rabbis gathered in Washington, D.C. today to express their dismay and concern over the premature imprisonment of Sholom Rubashkin, urging the U.S. Department of Justice to closely scrutinize the demands by federal prosecutors in Iowa that Rubashkin be imprisoned before he is sentenced.

ALBANY, NY [CHI] — During Mesivta Oholei Torah’s Saratoga Shabbaton, Shluchim Rabbi Yisroel & Abba Rubin welcomed the Hanhala and Bachurim in the New York State Legislative Chamber. Assemblyman Gordon issued them a special proclamation how the Legislature changed NYS law to the Gemara Bava Basra “Chazaka Sheyesh Imah Taana.” Rabbi Rubin later Farbrenged about the Horaha in Avodas Hashem.

New “Tznius” Campaign Issues Letter

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — The new Tznius campaign organizers have issued a letter to Crown Heights residents explaining their campaign. In the letter the group begins with the significance of Tznius behavior and dress. Then touches on their campaign, where its states; “…individuals have committed themselves to patronize only those stores that are committed to operate in congruence with.. ..standards of Chassidishe Shchuneh.” It also lists a few stores who have committed themselves to this campaign. The letter is signed by both Rabbi Osdoba and Rabbi Schwei.

This week marks the 60th anniversary of the ascension of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Schneerson, to the global leadership of Chabad. In that time, the organization has grown from a small hassidic group into a global powerhouse of Jewish outreach. But 15 years after our great rebbe’s passing, and with Chabad firing on all cylinders, it faces a major decision as to its future. It will either continue to focus on horizontal expansion – opening more Chabad Houses and sending out more rabbi-emissaries – or it will begin focusing on vertical expansion.

A ‘no-fly’ list is to be established, all flights between Britain and Yemen are cancelled forthwith, and terrorist movements will be “seamlessly tracked and disrupted”. Finally, the introduction of full body scanners will begin at British airports next week.
