Just as Jews around the country were preparing to gather to pray for Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu, word of his passing arrived.

Earlier in the afternoon, it was reported that his medical condition had severely deteriorated, and that prayers were sought.

During the speech of Rabbi Binyomin Jacobs, Chief Rabbi of the InterProvencial Chief Rabbinate (IPOR), dutch youth driving by on their motorcycles tried interrupting the ceremony by yelling “Heil Hitler”.

Cotto stopped Israel's Yuri Foreman in the ninth round Saturday night to win the junior middleweight title in the first fight at Yankee Stadium in more than three decades.

Fighting for his father, who died in January, and for his legion of Puerto Rican fans, Miguel Cotto won the first boxing match at the new Yankee Stadium on Saturday.

His victory came in bizarre fashion, after Yuri Foreman slipped in the seventh round and limped through the rest of the bout. Cotto won the fight twice, taking it for good 42 seconds into the ninth round. While Foreman carried on courageously, fighting and limping simultaneously, it was Cotto who left with the World Boxing Association super welterweight title belt.

Many issues faced the community with the heavily disputed Vaad elections, to name one was the obvious issue, should I go and vote, and outright disobey Rabbi Osdoba? What will happen after the elections? How will you retake the offices? These were among a number of other questions that were raised at a ‘meet the candidates’ meeting in Beis Chaya Mushka.

As my wife and I listened to unconfirmed reports of casualties, I was reminded of a time while at the same U.S. entry port, I waited on queue along side a Red Crescent ambulance in tow. The West Bank-bound vehicle was being donated by a Muslim group in Quebec, and was subjected to a mandatory inspection as any vehicle would that was crossing into the United States.
