We all have our share of dirty laundry. No one in the world is born great. Everyone has skeletons in their closets. Do we shove it all under the bed, or do we deal with it, become amazing people, and move on? People who do the former are forgotten. In sharing his fond memories of his good friend Mendy Deren, Senator Joe Lieberman connected the event marking Mendy’s Shloshim to Chanukah with the observation that “the story of Chanukah was essentially a war of the Greeks vs.the Chassidim.” The Greeks felt that we had to assimilate into the foreign culture and Chassidim like Mendy showed us how we can engage the world while remaining pure and faithful to the values of Torah.
Last night, Wednesday Dec. 8, the last night of Chanukah, was the 31st Annual South Florida Chanukah Festival. The event welcomed a crowd of over 10,000 people, and thousands more via the live webcast on CrownHeights.info!
This year again, hundreds of people attended the annual menorah lighting on the most famous square in Holland, the Dam square in Amsterdam.

ROSTOV [CHI] — Chanukah in Rostov was celebrated like never before, with programs for all ages, the highlight of which was a Chanukah concert and person of the year award attended by over a thousand people.
MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ [CHI] — Hundreds of local residents participated, despite frigid weather, in the lighting of NJ’s largest Menorah, first replica of the “National Menorah” in Washington, DC, this past Sunday, 5th night of the holiday. Participants included: Monroe Township Mayor Richard Pucci, Senator-elect Linda Greenstein, members of town council, Monroe High School marching band, Cantor Mordechai Schwartz, and the Budapest Jugglers. Hot latkes, doughnuts and sizzling drinks were served following the ceremony.
