University of Chicago Jewish Center Relocates to Larger Quarters

For the students who frequent the Chabad-Lubavitch Jewish Center at the University of Chicago and Hyde Park, no longer will cramped Shabbat meals and Torah classes in close quarters be the norm. When they return to campus for the beginning of the spring semester next month, they’ll find that all of the center’s programming will take place from a new headquarters in the heart of the urban campus.

At 3:58 a.m. on xmas Day, the National Weather Service upgraded its alert about the snow headed to New York City, issuing a winter storm watch. By 3:55 p.m., it had declared a formal blizzard warning, a rare degree of alarm. But city officials opted not to declare a snow emergency — a significant mobilization that would have, among other things, aided initial snow plowing efforts.

SC Parents Cheer Rabbi’s Own Educational Accomplishment

Rabbi Meir Muller, who recently received a Ph.D. in early childhood education, teaches children at the Columbia Jewish Day School about the holiday of Rosh Hashanah.

Until just last week, going off to school has had a dual meaning for Rabbi Meir Muller. He’s been the principal of the Columbia Jewish Day School for the past 18 years. But in the midst of his day-to-day responsibilities, he also pursued an education of his own, turning to the nearby University of South Carolina to take advanced courses in early childhood education. He received his doctorate in the subject on Dec. 13.
