The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook, Brooklyn already played host last year to the monumental event – the Gala Banquet of the Kinus Hasluchim. The scene is set to repeat once again itself tomorrow evening. The following is a sneak peak at the crude commercial space being transformed into a gorgeous banquet hall.

More than 4,000 Hasidic rabbis from around the world are gathering in the city this weekend. Today they are paying tribute to spiritual leader Rabbi Menachem Schneerson by visiting his gravesite at Old Montefiore Cemetery in Queens. The rabbi is credited with reinvigorating Jews after the devastation of the Holocaust.

Three years ago this weekend, believers of two religions came face to face, with horrific results. It is remembered as the Mumbai Attacks. Over the course of four days, 10 terrorists from the Islamic group Lashkar-e-Taiba perpetrated coordinated attacks on 10 different locations across India’s financial capital. In addition to three hotels, a cinema, and a hospital for women and children, four of the terrorists traveled to the Nariman House, which served as the city’s Chabad Jewish community center.

The shining stars of the world, the Shluchim Online School students, joined together for a grand program Thursday.
In the small town of Netishyn, Ukraine, more than 1,500 Jewish bodies are buried in two shallow graves. The bodies are victims of the Einsatzgruppen, Hitler’s infamous para-military death squads that swept through the region in 1941. There is no monument and the victims’ clothing and shoes, along with fragments of Torah scrolls, prayer books and tefillin [phylacteries] still lay on the ground.
All this may change soon, thanks to the efforts of Lea New, a 2008 graduate of Yeshiva University’s Stern College for Women.
