Rabbi Bentzion Chanowitz relates: At around 4:00 PM on Tuesday the 24th of January, we were informed that our missing Sefer Torah had been recovered. We immediately drove to the Monticello Police Department. The Torah was in a large plastic bag stored in a larger box.

Although the island had a significant Jewish population back in the early/mid 1700s, the island has not had a permanent Jewish community since the last synagogue was abandoned in 1781. That all changed about 3 years ago, when Chabad arrived in town.

In the midst of filming for the latest episode of her new show Next Chapter in the Brooklyn Chassidic community, Oprah Winfrey‘s team caught footage of a few Jewish Children in Crown Heights. According to law, the footage can not be shown without the permission from the children’s guardian/s, so Oprah contacted Crownheights.info and asked if our readers would help identify them so that they may be contacted to request their consent.

Rabbi Eli Hecht Found Not Guilty in Spanish Court

Rabbi Eli Hecht, a Tzedaka fundraiser from Kfar Chabad, Israel who was arrested in Spain on charges of drug trafficking, was aqquited of all charges in a Madrid court today. Rabbi Hecht will return home to his family after the completion of the paperwork process.

Study: Israeli Jews Becoming More Religious

Israeli Jews are becoming more religious, according to a study published Thursday by the Israel Democracy Institute in conjunction with the Avi Chai Foundation. The survey, entitled “A Portrait of Israeli Jews: Beliefs, Observance, and Values of Israeli Jews,” examined levels of religiosity of Israeli Jews in comparison with levels of the past twenty years.
