San Diego Chabad House Demolished

Demolished Chabad of La Costa, June 26, 2012.

On Tuesday, June 26, Chabad at La Costa took the next major step towards dedicating its new complex as the old Chabad Center was demolished. Many of the community participants turned out to witness this event, which they almost uniformly described as ‘bittersweet.’ Bitter in the sense that there have been so many events in the old building over the past twenty years, yet sweet in that it marks a new beginning in the Chabad House’s growth and development.

Shluchim Flee Massive Colorado Wildfire

The skies are orange as flames from the Waldo Canyon Fire race through a neighborhood in west Colorado Springs, Colo. on Tuesday, leaving a trail of destruction, burning homes and buildings in its path.

A Chabad shaliach and his family were among the 32,000 people who fled Colorado Springs in the face of the raging Waldo Canyon wildfire that began three days ago and continues to burn out of control.

Chabad of North Hollywood Expansion Reapproved

Neighbors of Chabad of North Hollywood are unhappy with the construction of the building along Chandler Boulevard.

The Los Angeles City Council’s Planning and Land Use Management (PLUM) committee sided with supporters of an expansion project for the Chabad of North Hollywood on June 26, moving the partially completed project one step closer to reapproval, after an appeals court overturned a previous approval by the committee in May.

This Wednesday, June 27, friends and family will gather to commemorate one year since the passing of Rabbi Zalman Kazen, OBM. The event will take place at Rabbi Shain’s Shul, 390 Kingston Ave. [between Crown and Montgomery St.] at 8:00pm, beginning with Mincha, followed by the ceremony, Mishnayos and Maariv.

Boruch Dayan Hoemes: Rabbi Yosef Wineberg, OBM

With sadness we inform you of the passing of Rabbi Yosef Wineberg, devout chossid of the Frierdiker Rebbe and the Rabbe, at the age of 94. Reb Yossel, as he was affectionately known, was the author of Lessons in Tanya, a multivolume commentary on the fundamental work on Chabad philosophy written by the Alter Rebbe, which was personally edited by the Rebbe.

Seven years ago, Lubavitch Chabad of the Loop, Gold Coast and Lincoln Park took out a $4.9 million loan to build what was supposed to be a state-of-the-art synagogue and community center at Chestnut and Clark streets.
