CGI Morristown Wraps Up Exciting First Week

Over 350 children in 5 divisions (boys, girls, kiddie, chayal and CIT) enjoyed a full range of activities, including sports and swim instruction, drama, arts, cooking and much more during their first week at Camp Gan Israel of Morristown, NJ. The highlights were the three trips: to FunZone, Glow in the Dark Golf and Imagine That.

Hundreds of Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries serving college campuses from around the world have gathered at the Hilton Stamford Hotel and Executive Meeting Center in Connecticut for the 11th annual Chabad on Campus International Emissaries Conference that ends yesterday.

Six Varieties of Kosher Ice Cream Produced in Russia

Just in time for summer, a Russian ice cream company produced a special kosher line of the frozen dessert. The Stavropol-based company approached the kosher department of the Russian Chief Rabbinate headed by Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar about launching a production line that would be acceptable to Jewish dietary laws.

Ed Koch has a bridge named after him, so why not David Dinkins? That’s the question City Councilman Fernando Cabrera will ask Thursday when he introduces a bill to rename the Willis Avenue Bridge after New York’s first and only African-American mayor.

Like many uninformed, non-observant Jews, I made the mistake of generalizing that all ultra-Orthodox Jews were singularly insulated, inaccessible and elitist. For the better part of my life, any time I saw a man on the street wearing a black fedora, suit and tzitzit, I registered an almost Pavlovian reflex of discomfort, assuming the person in question would view me as an inferior Jew.

Chicago Chabad House Avoids Foreclosure

A Chicago Chabad House avoided foreclosure by filing for bankruptcy. The brownstone housing the Lubavitch Chabad of the Loop, Gold Coast and Lincoln Park was to have gone on the auction block Wednesday, but the bankruptcy filing this week gave Chabad additional time to repay a bank loan, the Chicago Tribune reported.
