In our Brooklyn neighborhood, it’s said you should put your kid on a waiting list for child care while she is still in the amniotic sac. And when it comes to preschool, don’t hold your breath — unless, that is, you’ve got good connections. When it was our turn, I attended workshops on applying to preschool, toured half a dozen schools and subjected my daughter to interviews masked as “play dates” with the current students.

A new cultural center and museum memorializing 100 years of Jewish immigration to Brazil has been launched with a groundbreaking ceremony and the receipt of historic artifacts to be housed in its permanent collection.

National Guard Airman Thanks Aleph for their Support

Alternate Side Parking Suspended through Wednesday
Alternate Side Parking rules will be suspended on Monday, February 11, to facilitate snow removal and on Tuesday for observance of Lincoln’s Birthday and Wednesday for holiday observance. Payment at parking meters will be in effect throughout the city on these days.

Jewish Press Opinion: Achdus With Chabad
In an opinion piece published on the Jewish Presses website, an author laments Chabads massive organizational prowess and success in ‘Kiruv’. The article is titled “Achdus with Chabad” which decries how Chabad is “not really integrated with the rest of Orthodoxy,” and how we are “obsession to one degree or another with their Rebbe as Moshiach.”
