Back In the day when modern travel was still a dream, people would depend on a horse drawn carriage as their means of transportation. Such travel consisted of a horse, a coachman and, of course, a passenger – often an important dignitary or nobleman. Yet each of these components had their own divergent perception of the journey.

Last week, we announced that Levi Schneider of Crown Heights was the lucky winner of the Camp Emunah Split-the-Pot raffle, whose proceeds went to benefit the camp’s scholarship fund. Levi, who was out of the country when he purchased his winning ticket, stopped by this morning at the Camp Emunah Office and claimed his prize of $5,054.59.
In honor of Purim, we present a letter from the Rebbe in which he responds to a law professor who asked “How can a humane, civilized person today accept the Biblical commandment to wipe out the entire nation of Amalek?” A second letter is presented as well, in which the Rebbe derives a lesson from Queen Esther. The letters are from the archives of Rabbi Nissan Mindel, OBM, personal secretary to the Previous Rebbe and the Rebbe, and were made available by his son-in-law, Rabbi Sholom Ber Schapiro.

On Taanis Esther one of the customs of the day is to give Machtzis Hashekel before Mincha. In 770 there were many choices, including coins the Rebbe used and coins that the Frierdiker Rebbe had given for this very purpose.
