The following open letter was written by Rabbi Hirshy Minkowicz, whose wife Rashi tragically and suddenly passed away last week. It is addressed to the global family of Lubavitch Chasidim – and the Crown Heights community in particular.

Less than a month after registration opened for Pesach ‘Merkos Shlichus,’ the Bochurim who signed up were called to Merkos’ offices at Chabad HQ, where they displayed their expertise at leading a public Seder and their knowledge of the necessary Halachos.

Common to our daily vernacular are the terms “Spiritual” or “Spirituality.” By secular standards these adjectives describe a sense of inspiration and stimulation that stem from an unusual or extraordinary experience; such as say a picturesque sunset, or a moving operatic rendition. Even within religion we find the term spiritual/spirituality used to describe the feelings derived from the fulfillment of a juicy Mitzvah or the consumption of a hearty section of Talmud and the like. In reality however, this definition is far from accurate.

These questions are addressed by the Rebbe in two letters found in the archives of Rabbi Nissan Mindel, a personal secretary of the Rebbe, and were made available for publication by his son-in-law Rabbi Sholom Ber Shapiro.
Purim excitement was already in the air Friday night at YNS (AKA Rabbi ‘O’s Yeshiva) in New Jersey. During Kabbolas Shabbos and Ma’ariv, the bochurim sang and danced the Tefilos to all different niggunim.

A group of about 40 Jewish young men from Moscow arrived in New York Wednesday for a weekend of learning, inspiration and personal growth.
Children with special needs and their families really did have a joyous Purim this year in Crown Heights.
This year, Purim in Ulyanovsk, Russia was especially joyous. For the fourth year in a row, the Jewish community was allowed to use the city’s Tatar Islamic Cultural Center free of charge to host the Purim party, alleviating from them the financial cost of renting a hall.
