In this eastern Ukrainian city—the country’s fourth-largest, and historically one of its most Jewish—the crisp, round matzahs are carefully packaged and then shipped throughout Ukraine. A Lubavitch Girls’ School in Los Angeles came together to raise the spirit and show support for a fellow student who is battling cancer. The gesture, which came as a complete surprise to the girl, brought tears to the eyes of even the veteran LAPD officers who witnessed it.
All it took was some pieces of ordinary plywood, a can of black chalkboard paint, and rainbow-colored chalk to create a wall of hope.
