Weekly Letter: Reconciling Torah with Evolution

This week, as we prepare to read in the Torah Parshas Bereishis, we present a letter from the Rebbe in answer to someone who presented a novel analysis of the Genesis recording in the Torah — whereby he attempts to reinterpret the Creation account of the Torah so that it can be “reconciled” with the changing theories offered by scientists. The letter, written originally in English, is from the archives of the Rebbe’s personal trusted secretary, Rabbi Nissan Mindel.

Simchas Beis Hashoeva on Monday evening in Crown Heights began with early music and dancing specially catered to children. Beginning at 7:00pm, Fitche Benshimon — accompanied by a boys’ choir — played music to the delight of hundreds of children who joyously danced with their parents.

Orange Chabad Hosts ‘Shakshukah in the Sukkah’

Chabad of Orange County, directed by Rabbi Pesach and Chana Burston, held a community “Shakshukah in the Sukkah” at the Burston home in Monroe, New York. The event featured a gourmet Israeli Breakfast spread, a dynamic fire show, and enabled more than 100 people to partake in the mitzvos of Sukkos.

An estimated 1,500 buildings have been destroyed and more than 75,000 acres have burned in eight counties as a result of the fires that started on Sunday night in Northern California. At the same time, a brush fire in Anaheim, in Southern California, has been making its way towards homes and buildings, necessitating more than 1,000 firefighters to battle the flames.

Miles-Long Traffic Jam Doesn’t Slow Sukkah Mobile

All lanes of the upper level of the Brooklyn-bound side of the Verrazano Bridge were blocked Monday night, causing traffic delays. Included in the jam, which stretched for almost five miles, was a sukka mobile returning from a day of mivtzoim in the Staten Island area. The vehicle sat idle, but the Bochurim that were on it did not.
