At 10:30pm on the eve of 24 Teves 5573 (1812), the Alter Rebbe, founder of the Chabad movement, passed away, in a small town in Eastern Europe. At that exact moment one hundred and fifty years later, in Brooklyn, New York, his successor the Rebbe, held a unique farbrengen. Rabbi Leibel Shapiro recalls that special commemoration.

Governor Cuomo Announces Three Additional Cases of UK Strain Identified in New York

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that three additional cases of the UK strain of the COVID-19 virus have been identified in New York. Two of the cases are connected to the initial discovery of the UK strain identified in Saratoga Springs last week, while a third case, unrelated to the Saratoga Springs exposures, has been traced back to an individual living in Massapequa, Nassau County.

Weekly Letter: An Authentic View of Jewish History

With the beginning of the second chumash, Sh’mos, begins the history of the Jewish People. In this letter, the Rebbe advises an author on his project to write a book on Jewish history. So that this book reflects an authentic view of Jewish history, says the Rebbe, it should emphasize the Divine Providence throughout our history as well as its uniqueness. In addition, the Rebbe cautions not to draw from “broken vessels” and to avoid the predictions of the prophets of doom.
