Blessed as a Child, He Lived to Almost 104

In the summer of 1929, the Sixth Rebbe — Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, of righteous memory—blessed young Aviv Keller, then 10 years old, with long life. That blessing was fulfilled and last week—93 years after that event—he passed away, just weeks shy of his 104th birthday, on the Hebrew date of 24 Tevet, the anniversary of the passing of the Alter Rebbe, the founder of Chabad.

This past Shabbat, Osipenko was among 45 members of the Jewish community of Kiev’s “Left Bank” to enjoy an uplifting and cathartic Shabbat in Haditch at the resting place of Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, the first Chabad-Lubavitch Rebbe, whose liberation in 1798 from a Czarist prison on the 19th day of the month of Kislev is being celebrated this week.
