Weekly Letter: Is doing a Mitzvah for an Ulterior Motive Hypocritical?

In preparation for Rosha Hashanah – as we make an accounting of our deeds and resolutions for improving our deeds, we present a letter in which the Rebbe encourages the writer in the actual doing of the Mitzvos, even if doing so for an ulterior motive – and explains why this is not hypocritical. Also touching upon  a message for Rosh Hashanah. The letter, written originally in English, is from the archives of the Rebbe’s trusted secretary Rabbi Nissan Mindel.

Singapore Welcomes 16th Group of Rabbinic Students

An emotional farewell, but also a new beginning for the small community of Singapore. The bustling island-city in Southeast Asia sadly does not boast a huge variety of kosher cuisine. Nonetheless, last year’s bochurim recently organised and hosted a cheese and wine banquet commemorating their departure after 12 months of dedication, as well as welcoming next year’s shluchim, handpicked by Rabbi Rivni to service the community’s various needs.

Here’s My Story: Fourth Time’s the Charm

I came to Chabad many years ago, but for me to say that is not accurate because, really, Chabad came to me. In 1970, while studying at the University of Buffalo, I attended a class on Jewish mysticism being taught by Rabbi Noson Gurary. As a result of that class, I became interested in finding out more about my roots and, during my last semester at college, I had my first encounter with the Rebbe.
