WASHINGTON — President George W. Bush signed a proclamation marking April 16, 2008 as the 106th anniversary of the birth of the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, of righteous memory, and declaring it Education and Sharing Day USA.

Chabad Denied Passover Funds Due to Wine

TUCSON, AZ — An Appropriations Board decision yesterday left a UA campus club with cases of grape juice and almost $2,000 to raise.

A UA Jewish club was denied $1,900 in funding for its Passover celebration because of the presence of alcohol at the annual event.

The Associated Students of the University of Arizona Appropriations Board voted unanimously to leave UA Chabad Jewish Student Association’s event unfunded because of a bylaw.

WARSAW, Poland — The Jewish prayer for the dead echoed Tuesday across what was once the heart of the Warsaw ghetto as Polish and Israeli leaders marked the 65th anniversary of a doomed battle waged by young Jews against Nazi troops.

Library Makes 1,000 Rare Haggadahs Available Online

NEW YORK, NY — The central Chabad-Lubavitch library in New York made 1,000 Passover Haggadahs, many of them rare, available on the Internet for browsing by the public. The Agudas Chasidei Chabad Library has one of the largest collections of the Passover orders of service in the world.

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn — Passover will have yet more meaning this year for Shirley Levy, who came from Caracas, Venezuela, to Crown Heights to learn about Judaism.

By the time the holiday begins at sundown Saturday, Levy, 25, will have learned how to properly remove all yeast products from her home and how hand matzoh is correctly made within 18 minutes so there is no chance for it to rise.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — This June, it will be 10 years since Yaakov Parisi, 60, was born.

Before that, Yaakov, the Hassidic Jew, the citizen of two countries, didn’t exist. In his place was a Christian pastor leading a life different in many ways from that Parisi knows now.
