CrownHeights.info: As commissioner of Crown Heights’ only organized sports league tell me a little bit about how you got started.
Zevi S.: I was previously part of a secular league in Bayridge.We were about twelve guys who used to play twice a week. Then we saw how many people in Crown Heights were searching for this kind of recreation and we – Danny Cole and me – decided to start our own league here.

Ritual Bath to be Adapted for Disabled

Hallandale, FL — For years, Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus has wanted to bring an ancient Jewish cleansing tradition to his Hallandale Beach synagogue.

Now, his dream is coming true.

Plans to build three mikvahs — or ritual baths — at Chabad of South Broward are in the pipeline.

Bias Crime in Crown Heights – Mezuzah Burnt

The New York Post’s NYPD Blotter reported that “Cops are investigating the burning of a religious adornment in Crown Heights, authorities said yesterday.

A 14-year-old girl called cops to her Crown Street home at 10 p.m. Thursday after she smelled smoke and discovered that the mezuzah – a Jewish symbol of faith affixed to the doorway – was burned, police sources said.

Authorities are investigating the vandalism as an act of criminal mischief and possible bias crime.”

CrownHeights.info has learned that this incident took place inside of 621 Crown St which is a large building located between Troy and Albany, its residents a predominately Black. One of the residents of the house notice that the Mezuzahs screws had been removed Friday morning, and by the afternoon they smelled it burning.

Sold Out Crowd for the 5th Annual Soul II Soul Concert

Over 1000 Men Woman and Children packed into the George Wingate Auditorium for the annual Soul II Soul concert which benefits the Chasdei Zahavi Foundation for tuition for children with special needs.

The hall was full, there wasn’t an empty seat in the house, and all were there for a performance by the Crown Heights native and Chassidishe Performer Mordechai Ben David.
