Yeshiva Student Sentenced For Long Beach Airport Bomb Hoax

Los Angeles, CA — A Miami Beach yeshiva student was sentenced to six months of home detention and ordered to do community service for calling in a bomb threat for a JetBlue flight at Long Beach airport after he arrived too late to board the plane last summer.

Y***** W*** acknowledged when he pleaded guilty last fall that he made the hoax threat to try to keep the Aug. 26 evening flight to Fort Lauderdale from leaving before he could board. W*** also was fined $1,000.

Attorney Donald Etra said his 22-year-old client wanted to apologize to the passengers on the flight, who were delayed about a half-hour because of the hoax. “He does realize … that you don’t mess with airlines, you don’t mess with airline safety,” Etra told U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper.

An Inspiring Yud Shevat Farbrengen At YNS – Rabbi ‘O’s

The Farbrengen started off first with a beautifully prepared seuda followed by the Ma’amer niggun and then the Ma’amer of Bosi Legani was said by five Tmimim of the yeshiva. It was an unbelievable sight when each bochur began his part of the Ma’amer – with eyes closed, full of confidence and pride. Yasher koach to Hatomim Sholi Israel, Hatomim Levy Kamensky, Hatomim Shmueli Coleman, Hatomim Mendy Hahn and Hatomim Meir Roetter for a job well done!

The main points emphasized at the Farbrengen by Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Orimland, Mashpia Rabbi Levi Wilschanski and Maggid Shiur Rabbi Landesman were the Inyonim of Mesiras Nefesh by the Rebbeim which was given over to the Chassidim. Another point stressed was that in order to move forward in life we must let go of any bad experiences that one may have had in the past and once we release them we will be able to climb the ladder of life reaching heights that we never would dream of.

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Chairman Tino Hernandez today announced the availability of 22,000 new Section 8 housing vouchers for very low-income families seeking affordable housing in New York City. Because of the availability of new vouchers, NYCHA’s Section 8 voucher waiting list will reopen for the first time in 12 years. Individuals and families who secure Section 8 vouchers can seek housing in a neighborhood of their choice from any private landlord who accepts the vouchers. The Mayor also announced that 3,000 of these vouchers will be targeted specifically to households at risk of homelessness. With a voucher, qualified families pay 30% of their income toward the Fair Market Rent set by the federal government; NYCHA pays the remainder directly to the private landlord. The announcement was made at the Queens Section 8 Applications Office in Corona as the Department of Homeless Services and the City of New York prepares for the fifth annual Homeless Street Count tonight.
