Menorah Lighting Adds to Holiday Spirit

Chicoer

Chico, CA — The glittering Xmas tree in Chico’s City Plaza was joined by another holiday symbol of good will — a brightly lit menorah — Thursday night.

“Darkness is chased away by illumination, by acts of goodness and kindness,” said Rabbi Mendy Zwiebel before he lit a nine-foot-tall menorah, a kind of candle holder, that had been temporarily set up in front of the bandstand in the downtown park.

Tonight is Nittel Nacht

The Rebbe and the previous Rebbe playing a game of chess.

Just a reminder that tonight is “Nittel Nacht” and the custom is that we don’t learn as to not be “adding Chayus”.

The Rebbe says in a Sicha that we shouldn’t “waste our time” but involve ourselves in something like chess which exercises the mind or any other chore that needs to be done. And the Rebbe related a story in the Sicha where a Bochur would save all the sewing of the buttons on his cloths to “Nittel Nacht” to be productive in a “non Adding Chayus” way.

So good luck in those chess games!

Alternate Side Parking Rules Suspended

Alternate side parking regulations are suspended on Monday, December 25. Because it is a major legal holiday, parking meter regulations are also suspended. On major legal holidays, stopping, standing, and parking are permitted, except in areas where stopping, standing, and parking rules are in effect 7 days a week (for example, “No Standing Anytime”).

For the first time ever!

In the last few days, all Lubavitcher Yeshivos worldwide have received a package from the Vaad Talmidei Hatmimim. Inside was a newly released DVD and full-color booklet in connection with the upcoming Yom Habohir Hey Teves, marking 20 years since the historic victory in court concerning the library of Agudas-Chasidei-Chabad.

The DVD is a “first attempt” to produce a round up of all events concerning the court case, and leading up to the momentous victory.
