Blizzard 2006 sets new records

We got 26.9 inches of snow on the ground (in central park), in a blizzard to remember, with the largest snowfall in a single storm in New York City history (The previous record was set in 1947 with 26.4 inches of snow).

Kids as well as adults went out in the streets having fun in the snow whilst others were not having so much fun digging their cars out of the snow.

People took advantage of these harsh weather conditions for snow boarding of the back of cars, and others were seen skiing down Kingston Ave.!!

As of yet schools seem to be operation on normal schedule for tomorrow, if you know of any closings, please email us at webmaster@crownheights.info.

Seniors Get A Second Wind With Chabad Programs

Rivka Chaya Berman – Lubavitch.org

As more and more boomers get their welcome kit from AARP (American Association of Retired Persons), Chabad programming for seniors is experiencing a boom of its own. In southern California, two Chabad centers offer programs for older Jews with a twist – spiritual health is as much a concern as good blood pressure readings.

Crown Heights gets hit with 10 inches of snow!

Since Shabbos afternoon it has been snowing with no sign of letting up, now at 7:00am it still does not seem to slow down at all, and there are places with accumulation of about 10 inches of snow!

City snow plows prioritize which streets get plowed and those are main routes like Eastern Parkway and Empire Blvd. then goes the Avenues like Kingston and Brooklyn, and then goes the streets.

In the Extended Article is a short gallery of the beginning of the storm last night.

Unbeaten Jewish boxer guided by faith

Newsday

Once they saw the video evidence, once they saw that this man in their midst was indeed something tenable, something real, the voices of the assembled at Adolf Schreiber Hebrew Academy of Rockland County rang out from every corner. It was then, after the rabbi delivered his introduction and the DVD of Dmitriy Salita’s career highlights as a boxer was completed and the lights in the segregated auditorium again were lifted, that the questions came pouring forth.

The questions came from the right side of the aisle, from the boys in the technicolor yarmulkes, and the questions came from the left side of the aisle, from the girls in the flowing print dresses. The questions were brutalistic (What was your worst injury?) and the questions were status-conscious (Have you ever been on “SportsCenter”?) and the questions were practical (How much money do you make?) and the questions were academic (Where do you go to college?), and after a while, the rabbi just wanted them all to be quiet and keep their tuchases in their seats so they could hear the answers to their own inquiries.

Following suit: Pols join filing against Atlantic Yards razing

NY Daily News

Three Brooklyn elected officials yesterday joined a high-profile lawsuit to bar Bruce Ratner from demolishing six buildings in the proposed Atlantic Yards site.

“My colleagues and I stand 100% with the plaintiffs,” said Councilwoman Letitia James (WFP-Prospect Heights), who filed the supporting brief with Rep. Major Owens (D-Crown Heights) and state Sen. Velmanette Montgomery (D-Fort Greene).
