Iran: Israel will be put in ‘eternal coma’ if it attacks nuclear sites

Haaretz

Were Israel to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities, Iran would respond so strongly that it would put the Jewish state into “an eternal coma” like Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s, the Iranian defense minister said Wednesday.

Earlier this week, Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz has said Israel would not accept Iran’s acquiring nuclear weapons under any circumstances. He stopped short of threatening a military strike against Iran – as Israel destroyed an unfinished Iraqi nuclear reactor in 1981 – but he said Israel was preparing for the possible failure of diplomatic negotiations with Iran.

When the judge gave the Jewish community of Cordoba, Argentina, ten days to find a home for three abandoned children or they would be given into the care of a local church-run children’s shelter, Chabad representatives Rabbi Yossi and Chana Turk made a decision that altered the course of their lives.

They adopted Gavriel, 6, Nicola, 4, and Candelaria, 2.

Now instead of eight children, the Turks have eleven.

Chabad Of Riverdale Celebrates Its 14th Anniversary

Over 300 people attended, last Motzei Shabbos, the 14th Anniversary Dinner of Chabad Lubavich of Riverdale, to honor Rabbi Mordechai and Rebbetzin Rochel Altein, Ezra and Sherry House, Dr. Barry and MJ Kanner, and Joanna Lora. The celebration took place at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx.

The evening included a video that recapped the history and activities of Chabad in Riverdale and an emotional award presentation. For entertainment, four close friends of Chabad sang some tunes about Chabad and the Shemtovs. Then Dr. Judah Schorr captivated the audience with a hilarious speech.

Rabbi & Rebbetzin Altein were honored with the lifetime achievement award; they are pioneers in bringing yiddishkeit to the Bronx in 1944. Thanks to them, thousands of Jewish boys and girls were fortunate to receive a strong Jewish education.

Lubavitch temple to rebuild storm-torn ‘eruv’

Palm Beach Post

About three years ago, the Chabad-Lubavitch temple west of Boynton Beach built the area’s first “eruv,” a man-made perimeter that allows Orthodox Jews to carry things within its boundaries on the Sabbath.

Jewish laws prohibit work on the Sabbath, including driving to synagogue or carrying anything while walking to the temple.

The eruv symbolically extends the private domain, or home, where Jews are permitted to carry on the Sabbath, including the public areas over which they must walk to reach synagogue.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A hate letter laced with a unknown substance set off an emergency situation at a Jewish community center.

The incident began at about 3:30 p.m. at the Schottenstein Chabad House. According to Columbus fire officials, someone at the house opened the letter, releasing a white powder.

Decontamination units were called, but the person did not appear to have any adverse reaction to the powder. The chief at the scene said the letter contained hate messages. They are conducting tests on the powder.

Aventura Teens Spend Shabbat With Chabad in New York

Rivka Chaya Berman – Lubavitch.com

Because of its efficacy as a teaching tool, experience-based learning is now being advocated as a strategy in classrooms from preschool through college. When twelve girls from Aventura, Florida’s Bat Mitzvah Club spent January 20-22 in the Brooklyn neighborhood surrounding Chabad-Lubavitch headquarters, they got to know how the day of rest feels when the entire community is keyed into its celebration.

Bat Mitzvah Club offers a year of well-planned experiences and lessons that help girls grow into their Jewish womanhood with an understanding far deeper than that provided by frantic planning of a thematic bash. At Club meetings, members do more than holiday crafts. Through texts and guided discussion, they explore the lives of Jewish women past for meaning in the present. One group has been keeping a scrapbook and journal to dig for personal relevance from the lives of famous Jewish women. From its start in the 1990’s, Bat Mitzvah Clubs International has sprouted 270 branches from Albany and Montreal to Hong Kong and Berlin.
