Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam — History was made in Vietnam in the beginning of this week. For the first time since the revelation of the Giving of the Ten Commandments on Mt. Sinai over 3,000 years ago, a Torah Scroll has been dedicated for the Jewish community in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Newark, NJ — Close to 100 Shluchim and Shluchos from all over North America, gathered on Wednesday of last week for the annual Friendship Circle conference at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark, New Jersey. The conference closed Thursday evening.

New Shluchim to California

Rabbi Gil and Mrs Bracha Sarah (nee Goldschen) Leeds of Crown Heights embarked on Shlichus today-Monday, to Berkeley, CA where they will serve as the Shluchim at the University of Califorina Berkeley Chabad House on Camous.

The new Leeds were appointed by Rabbi Yehuda Ferris and are recipients of the Rohr grant.

ULY Chovevai Torah Announces This Years Shluchim!

This year Chovevai Torah has selected 13 Bochurim who will be dispatched to Yeshivos around the world as Talmidim HaShluchim and will provide more personal attention to the Bochurim in those yeshivas in the learning environment as well as assist in the Mivtzoim Programs.

Seak Beach, CA, June 21 — On a recent spring evening, Southland seniors took a trip down memory lane as Chabad of Los Alamitos hosted an evening of classic black and white Yiddish cinema. The event gave the older audience a chance to enjoy some rarely seen classics and share an evening of kinship with fellow Jewish seniors. This Yiddish film festival is part of Chabad’s ongoing effort to embrace one of California’s most valuable natural resources: senior citizens.

American Chabad on Campus Breaks 100 Center Milestone

Stamford, CT — Speaking at the banquet of the annual conference of Chabad on Campus emissaries Thursday night, philanthropist and international businessman George Rohr announced an historic slate of nine new campus projects, effectively bringing the number of universities served by the Chabad-Lubavitch movement to 130 worldwide.

More than 100 are now in the United States alone.

New Shluchim to Alberta, Canada

Rabbi Dovid and Mrs Chanie (nee Matusof) Altein have just moved on Shlichus to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where they have joined the administrative staff at Chabad Lubavitch of Alberta, Canada. Rabbi Altein will also direct the newly established Friendship Circle. The Alteins were appointed by Rabbi Menachem Matusof, Executive Director of Chabad Lubavitch of Alberta.

Destination ‘Gan Israel’ – Girls Head to Camp

Moscow, Russia – This week, the first session of the summer camp ‘Gan Israel’ has gotten underway. The youth will enjoy their break at the permanent camp base, which is located not far from Moscow.

The first group to enjoy this long-awaited experience includes over 200 girls, aged from 7 to 12 years old. There, they will be met by a number of dedicated camp staff – students of the ‘Machon Chamesh’ Women’s Institute in Moscow. While some of them will be working at the camp for the first time, many of them are already seasoned experts.

Chabad of the Conejo Celebrates 28 Years

Conejo, CA — Chabad of the Conejo, CA held its annual Gala Banquet on Tuesday, June 12th, 2007. The event was held at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. Nine hundred friends and supporters gathered for an evening of glamour, entertainment, and tribute. The gala this year was titled “A Call To Leadership” and was followed by a performance in the Kavli Theatre (1600 people) featuring The Moshav Band and Marc Salem in a new show “Mind Games Extra”.

Boynton Beach, FL — At Chabad, the new 10,000 square-foot Jewish Early Childhood Center will join the recently opened mikvah on the 3-acre El Clair Ranch Road campus. It is expected to open Aug. 28, with classes for 2- and 3-year-olds. Pre-kindergarten classes will be added the following year.

Last Bell for Jewish Students of Donetsk

Donersk, Ukraine –- There are few things more touching in the life of a school than the final ceremony for its graduating students. On this occasion, senior pupils of the ‘Ohr Menachem’ Jewish Day School took this opportunity to bid farewell to their native and beloved school. The Donetsk Jewish community is proud of its graduates, many of whom will go on to pursue higher education at prestigious universities in Ukraine and various institutions abroad.

The event, which involved schoolchildren, their families and other members of the Donetsk Jewish community, was a joyous and interesting occasion for all participants. Like all schools in the Former Soviet Union, the last day of school involved the ringing of the ‘Last Bell’, signifying the end of yet another academic year.

Mass Bat Mitzva Ceremony Held in Ukraine

Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine – The Jewish community of Dnepropetrovsk hosted a mass Bat Mitzva ceremony at the ‘Ohr Avner-Levi-Yitzchok Schneerson’ Jewish Day School. This event involved not only students from Dnepropetrovsk but also students from schools belonging to the Ohr Avner educational network in Dneprodzerzhinsk, Krivoy Rog and Cherkassy.

The girls met on the eve of Shabbat in order to get acquainted and to organize the celebration for their parents. Together, they baked traditional Challa bread, in preparation for the Shabbat. On Shabbat, during the morning prayer at the ‘Golden Rose’ Synagogue, they recived their Jewish names.

New Shluchim to Austin Texas!

Rabbi Zev and his wife Ariela (nee Cohen) Johnson have recently moved out on Shlichus to the University of Texas Campus in Austin Texas. They were appointed by Rabbi Yosef Levertov to replace him as he moved out to the local community to expand the outreach work there.

New Early Childhood Center Launches in August ’07

Boynton Beach, FL — Palm Beach County will welcome its newest Early Childhood Education Center this August with the opening of Boynton’s Jewish Early Childhood Center. This center will open with a 2 year old and 3 year old program. Pre Kindergarten will be available beginning August, 2008.

The director and administration of the school are not shy to show their pride in the beautiful, brand new facility, as well as their highly qualified staff currently in place for the new school.
