New Chabad House for Jews of Naples

Naples, FL — Chabad of Naples, directed by Rabbi Fishel and Mrs Ettie Zaklos, will IYH be moving into a newly rented space, large enough to meet the needs of their multi-faceted programs and services. Renovations are currently underway, and they are planning to move in just in time for the grand opening of their Hebrew School on September 9, 2007.

Rostov-On-Don, Russia –- A memorial ceremony took place near Rostov-on-Don to commemorate nearly 30,000 Jews and thousands of other victims murdered here 65 years ago in the biggest single atrocity of the Holocaust in Russia. The event occurred at the ‘Zmievskaya Balka’ Memorial near the village of Zmievka. Busloads of people made their way here via the same route taken by those who met their death here – the crowd holding the same constituency as those who perished here – young and old, Jews and non-Jews, from all walks of life.

Greenwich, CT, Aug 8th ’07 — Stamford’s Ephraim Zucker stepped into the batter’s box yesterday against New York Mets lefty pitcher Scott Schoeneweis.

With a mighty swing of a plastic bat, the 8-year-old smacked a single. After a teammate’s hit, Ephraim raced past third base to try to score, but he couldn’t elude the tag by Schoeneweis.

Lugansk, Ukraine — The ‘Gan Israel’ Camp has wrapped up its 2007 season in Ukraine’s Lugansk Region. This is the seventh year in a row that children have had the opportunity to take part in this educational and spiritual health retreat.

Organized at the initiative of the Jewish community of Lugansk and under the leadership of Chief Rabbi of Lugansk Region Shalom Gopin and his wife Chana, the camp has gradually expanded from involving youngsters from this east Ukrainian region to also including kids from communities across the country.

Omsk, Russia — This week in Omsk, the ‘Achdut’ Newspaper issued by the local Jewish community held a meeting involving local Jews and 18 of their ‘heroes’. These individuals all seem to be familiar to local residents since these admirable individuals were all featured, one at a time, in the pages of ‘Achdut’ in the section “Interview of the Month” over the past two years.

Cleveland, OH — Army Pfc. Daniel Agami was described as a fearless, patriotic soldier who never hesitated risking his life for his fellow soldiers.

Agami also had a love for Iraqi children. He gave them candy and toys, and helped build their schools. The children seemed to love him, too, his family said.

Moscow Wraps Up 2007 Jewish Camp Season

Moscow, Russia — The ‘Gan Israel’ Camp near Moscow has wrapped up, putting an end to the 2007 season. Over 110 youth and 20 counselors involved in this last camp bid farewell and looked forward to the upcoming school year. This year, several retreats were held this year in order to give the opportunity to attend camp from over 20 surrounding cities.

Hanover, NH — Hillel and Chabad, the two Jewish organizations on campus, served a mass home-cooked Shabbat meal to more than 200 students and 20 professors and administrators on Friday night in Alumni Hall.

“In Judaism there’s no better way to come together than over food,” Chabad Rabbi Moshe Leib Gray said.
